Diagnostic Services at South Texas Fracture Prevention Clinic
It is important to check not only your bone quantity which we do with a DXA scan, but we also order and evaluate lab values to see why you are losing bone. If you are having pain, we may x-ray the area to rule out fracture. We also offer whole body scans that look at your composition of muscle, bone, and fat.
Bone Density Test
A bone density test, which is also know as a dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry scan or DXA Scan, will determine how many grams of calcium and other bone minerals are in a segment of bone. The most common areas that are tested are the spine and hips but sometimes other areas are tested too. The process is quick and painless.
An X-ray is a quick and painless test that we may use to rule out fractures if you happen to complain about pain in certain areas. X-rays are great ways to get images of bone and metals. This is why we usually ask you not to wear anything metal when you come to you appointment.
Whole Body Scan
With our whole body scan we can produce images that help us evaluate your general physical fitness. These Scans give us detailed information on:
- muscle composition
- bone composition
- Fat composition
