Dr. James W. Simmons III is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in performing everything from complex spinal reconstruction to minimally invasive spinal surgery. He practices at the Stone Oak location of South Texas Spinal Clinic, and he performs the following techniques for both children and adults in South Texas: microendoscopic discectomy, thoracoscopic anterior spinal fusion and instrumentation, minimally invasive spinal decompression, and minimally invasive spinal fusion with instrumentation.
In 1993, Dr. Simmons received his medical degree at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, Texas. He completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. Dr. Simmons completed his fellowship training in spinal surgery at the Twin Cities Spine Center in Minnesota.
Dr. Simmons is the medical director of the Texas Spinal & Thoracic Treatment Institute at Methodist Children's Hospital which provides services to children from around the world. He's board certified in Orthopedic Surgery from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of the Texas Medical Society, Scoliosis Research Society, Pediatric Orthopedic Society, Bexar County Medical Society, and North American Spine Society.
