Meet Dr. Diana Elizabeth McShane, MD

Dr. Diana McShane is a native Texan and is thrilled to bring her expertise and compassionate care to the San Antonio community. She is passionate about helping those suffering from chronic pain to find relief, regain function, and return to the activities they enjoy.

Dr. McShane earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from The University of Texas at Austin and her medical degree from McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. She then completed a residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at the same institution, completing the majority of her training at TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston, one of America’s top rehabilitation hospitals. Here, she gained extensive experience treating patients with severe brain injuries, strokes, spinal cord injuries, amputations, and neurological disorders. In recognition of her dedication and leadership, she was elected Administrative Chief Resident and honored as Resident of the Year in her final year.

Following residency, Dr. McShane pursued a Pain Medicine Fellowship at the University of Utah, training with leading experts in pain management. Her expertise includes a wide range of advanced interventional techniques and innovative therapies for managing complex pain conditions. She performs specialized treatments such as fluoroscopic-guided spine injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty, peripheral joint injections, and more. She is board-certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and board-eligible in Pain Medicine.

Outside of work, Dr. McShane enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and dogs. She loves exploring the outdoors, skiing, fishing on the gulf coast, and hiking in national parks.

Annette Gantz is a dedicated Nurse Practitioner (NP) serving patients at the South Texas Spinal Clinic with unwavering commitment and expertise. With a solid foundation in nursing and a passion for spinal health, Annette brings a unique blend of clinical knowledge and compassionate care to her practice. She specializes in providing comprehensive care for patients with spinal conditions, utilizing evidence-based practices and innovative treatments to improve their quality of life. Anette is known for her warm bedside manner and ability to establish trusting relationships with her patients, ensuring that they feel heard, valued, and supported throughout their healthcare journey.

In her role at the South Texas Spinal Clinic, Annette is deeply engaged in patient education and advocacy, empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. She collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop holistic treatment plans tailored to each patient’s specific needs and goals. Annette’s dedication to excellence and her commitment to delivering compassionate care make her a highly respected member of the healthcare community. Gerald Greenfield, Jr., MD

About

Dr. Greenfield, Jr. earned his Master’s Degree in Counseling and Doctor of Medicine Degree from Johns Hopkins University. During his time at Johns Hopkins, he excelled as a four-year letterman and achieved the status of an All-American Athlete in track and field.

Following his education, he pursued a rotating internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and subsequently completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu.

Dr. Greenfield further specialized through fellowships in spine and trauma surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and the Kantonsspital in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

James Simmons, III DO

About

Dr. James W. Simmons III is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in performing everything from complex spinal reconstruction to minimally invasive spinal surgery. He practices at the Stone Oak location of South Texas Spinal Clinic, and he performs the following techniques for both children and adults in South Texas: microendoscopic discectomy, thoracoscopic anterior spinal fusion and instrumentation, minimally invasive spinal decompression, and minimally invasive spinal fusion with instrumentation. 

In 1993, Dr. Simmons received his medical degree at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, Texas. He completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. Dr. Simmons completed his fellowship training in spinal surgery at the Twin Cities Spine Center in Minnesota. 

Dr. Simmons is the medical director of the Texas Spinal & Thoracic Treatment Institute at Methodist Children’s Hospital which provides services to children from around the world. He’s board certified in Orthopedic Surgery from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of the Texas Medical Society, Scoliosis Research Society, Pediatric Orthopedic Society, Bexar County Medical Society, and North American Spine Society. 

To best serve his patients, Dr. Simmons has hospital privileges at all Methodist Healthcare hospitals, The South Texas Spine & Surgical Hospital, all Baptist Health System hospitals, all Christus Santa Rosa hospitals, University Hospital, Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital of San Antonio, and Kindred Hospital of San Antonio.

Ajeya Joshi, MD

About

Dr. Ajeya P. Joshi, certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, specializes in treating spinal disorders at the Stone Oak location of South Texas Spinal Clinic.

His clinical focus encompasses cervical spine care, pediatric and adult spinal deformity, as well as employing minimally invasive lumbar and cervical spine technologies. Dr. Joshi is also skilled in applying regenerative medicine strategies to facilitate the healing of orthopedic and spinal injuries for patients in South Texas.

Hailing from Lexington, Massachusetts, Dr. Joshi graduated summa cum laude from Dartmouth College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and biochemistry. He pursued his medical degree at Harvard Medical School in Boston and completed his orthopedic training in the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program. Subsequently, he undertook a comprehensive fellowship in spinal surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

Dr. Joshi holds hospital privileges at Methodist Health Care, Christus Santa Rosa Hospital, the Spine and Surgical Hospital of South Texas, as well as Baptist Health System hospitals.

Antonio Webb, MD

About

Dr. Antonio Webb is a San Antonio Orthopedic Spine Surgeon, certified by the board and fellowship-trained, specializing in a comprehensive range of spinal conditions, including degenerative, deformity, trauma, cervical/lumbar arthroplasty, and minimally invasive spine surgery.

Dedicating 14+ years to his surgical craft, Dr. Webb’s journey includes four years of college, four years of medical school, a five-year orthopedic surgery residency, and a one-year spine surgery fellowship. In practice since 2020, he warmly welcomes patients struggling with spine pain, offering solutions tailored to their needs.

Originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, Dr. Webb’s path to becoming a doctor unfolded when he attended a Medical Careers Magnet Program in high school. To realize his dream, he joined the United States Air Force at 17, serving eight years as a medic and licensed vocational nurse. His military service included a tour north of Baghdad, Iraq, in 2005, where his unit treated over 800 patients and endured more than 100 enemy mortar attacks, earning several medals of distinction.

After his military career, Dr. Webb pursued medical school at Georgetown University, where he developed a keen interest in Orthopedic Surgery. His medical journey included impactful experiences, such as performing surgery and emergency medicine in Monrovia, Liberia (West Africa), orthopedic surgery in Port Au Prince, Haiti, and an AO trauma fellowship in Bangkok, Thailand.

Subsequently, Dr. Webb specialized in Spine Surgery through a combined Neurosurgery and Orthopedic Spine Surgery Fellowship at Texas Back Institute (TBI) in Plano, Texas. TBI, a pioneer in artificial disc replacement, witnessed Dr. Webb’s co-authorship of articles on cervical and lumbar artificial disc replacement, showcasing his commitment to advancing spine surgery practices.

David Roberts, MD

About

Dr. David A. Roberts received his medical degree in 1982 at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas TX. He completed his internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Scott and White Memorial Hospital, Temple TX. Dr. Roberts concluded his fellowship in spine surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine Houston TX in 1993. Dr. Roberts is a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and Fellow of American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and is a member of the Bexar County Medical Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and North American Spine Society. C. Stuart Pipkin III, MD

C. Stuart Pipkin III, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon at South Texas Spinal Clinic, serving patients in Boerne, New Braunfels, and San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Pipkin has a special interest in minimally invasive spine surgery.

Dr. Pipkin received his Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He then received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas, in 1983. He completed both his general internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. 

Upon completing his residency, Dr. Pipkin continued his studies with a spinal fellowship at Tulane University and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

Dr. Pipkin is currently a clinical instructor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. In addition, he has written several medical articles and delivered educational presentations to physicians at medical meetings.

Joel Jenné, MD

Dr. Joel W. Jenné is an orthopedic surgeon at South Texas Spinal Clinic, where he specializes in spinal surgery and all medical conditions related to the spine, including degenerative, traumatic, deformity, and tumor pathologies. He welcomes everyone in the South Texas area who struggle with spinal pain.

After graduating from the United States Air Force Academy in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, Dr. Jenné earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, Florida, then went on to finish a subspecialty orthopedic spine fellowship in Boston at New England Baptist Hospital.

Dr. Jenné served on active duty in the Air Force from 2005 to 2014 in San Antonio, where he was actively involved with the Air Force’s only orthopedic surgery training program. He served as the associate program director for the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium Orthopaedic Surgery Residency program from 2009 to 2013 and as an assistant professor of surgery for the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

Deployments to Balad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Bagram, Afghanistan, for Operation Enduring Freedom have afforded him valuable combat orthopedic surgery skills for both general orthopedic and spine-related injuries.

Dr. Jenné is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He holds memberships in the North American Spine Society, the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the San Antonio Orthopaedic Society. He’s an active member of the Texas Orthopaedic Association and was co-chairman of the program committee for the 2014 Annual Meeting.

He has been involved in both local and national meetings as a moderator and has had podium/poster presentations. He’s active with several research projects and is focused on developing a top-tier clinical orthopedic spinal practice.

Joel Edionwe, MD

Dr. Joel Edionwe, originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, considers himself a Texan at heart, having spent his formative years in the valley and Houston. Holding a medical degree from UTMB Galveston, he completed his residency training at UT Health San Antonio and pursued a spine fellowship at the esteemed Texas Back Institute in Plano, Texas. Dr. Edionwe also gained valuable experience during a summer stint at Yale University, focusing on anatomy, medical practices, and core biology.

Specializing in conservative non-operative care and surgical interventions in the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral spine, Dr. Edionwe’s expertise encompasses decompressions, non-and-instrumented fusions, minimally invasive surgery, and general orthopedics. Driven by a sense of calling to help others, he has dedicated his time to volunteering at various organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club, local food banks, and medical mission trips. Dr. Edionwe is deeply committed to advancing spine research and innovation, with a steadfast dedication to delivering excellence, compassion, and integrity in improving the lives of his patients.

Outside of his medical pursuits, Dr. Edionwe finds joy in the outdoors, traveling, watching movies, and cherishing moments with his wife and family.
