My Comeback Story: Jamey M.

My recovery

My treatment and recovery journey from significant symptoms that were affecting my daily life. Before surgery, I was experiencing leg weakness, balance instability, and increasing difficulty with walking and stairs. It was clear something was wrong, and after evaluation, I learned I had cervical myelopathy that required surgical intervention. From the very beginning, the spine clinic team was thorough, professional, and compassionate. The surgeon clearly explained the procedure, risks, and expected recovery process, which helped me feel informed and confident moving forward. My surgery took place on January 12. The first few weeks of recovery required patience and discipline. I experienced fatigue, muscle soreness in my shoulders and neck, and continued leg weakness. I relied on a cane for stability and had to carefully pace my walking and daily activities. Physical therapy became an important part of my healing process. Progress wasn’t linear — some days felt stronger than others — but over time I began noticing steady improvements in balance, endurance, and strength. Now, several weeks into recovery, I can walk independently for short distances without a cane and am gradually rebuilding stamina. My legs still tire more quickly than they used to, but the instability I felt before surgery has significantly improved. I feel more confident moving around and navigating stairs than I did prior to the procedure. Life has improved in meaningful ways since the surgery. The fear of worsening neurological symptoms is no longer hanging over me. I feel hopeful about continuing to regain strength and returning fully to normal activities. I’m able to participate more in daily life, drive again, and prepare to return to work. Most importantly, I feel like I’ve been given the opportunity to recover and move forward instead of declining. I’m grateful for the skill of the surgical team and the support staff who guided me through this process. Recovery takes time, but I’m thankful to be on the healing side of it.
