Dr. Sandra Rojas Ruiz is a board-certified anesthesiologist, interventional pain management doctor, and trained orthopedic hand surgeon. Her extensive training provides her with a unique understanding of musculoskeletal conditions, joint and spine disorders, and the complex relationship between injury, pain, and function. Dr. Rojas is fluent in English and Spanish.

Dr. Rojas believes the best outcomes are achieved when patients are active participants in their own care. She takes the time to listen to each patient’s concerns, understand their individual goals, and develop a personalized treatment plan based on their specific needs. She works closely with patients and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and other specialists when appropriate to provide comprehensive care.

Known for her kindness, compassion, and exceptional bedside manner, Dr. Rojas treats every patient with respect while encouraging them to take an active role in their health and recovery. She may review and discuss radiologic imaging with patients during office visits to help them better understand the source of their pain and the recommended treatment approach.

Dr. Rojas specializes in the evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal pain, joint conditions, spine disorders, and chronic pain, with an emphasis on individualized, multimodal care. Depending on each patient’s condition and goals, treatment may incorporate a combination of conservative, medication-based, and interventional therapies.

NonInterventional Approaches

Dr. Rojas recognizes that pain can be influenced by many factors, including lifestyle, emotions, beliefs, stress, and overall well-being. When appropriate, she may incorporate or recommend supportive therapies, such as:

Medication Management

When medication is appropriate, Dr. Rojas emphasizes a thoughtful approach that may include non-opioid medications and, when clinically indicated, opioid therapy as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Interventional Pain Procedures

When appropriate, Dr. Rojas performs image-guided procedures using X-ray/fluoroscopy or ultrasound, which may include:

  • Epidural & other spinal injections
  • Facet joint injections & medial branch blocks
  • Radiofrequency ablation
  • Joint injections
  • Spinal cord stimulation

  • Earned a medical degree from Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia, in 1993.

Internship and Residency: 

  • Completed an internship in orthopedic upper extremity and hand surgery at the University of Miami and Miller School of Medicine, in Miami, Florida. 
  • Completed anesthesiology residency training at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida. 

Subspecialty Fellowship: 

  • Dr. Rojas Ruiz has completed a subspecialty fellowship in pain medicine. She received her fellowship training from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in Miami, Florida.
